Welcome, Friends of Community Schools!

Community Schools are a partnership among the City of Philadelphia, the School District of Philadelphia, and school communities. There are 20 Community Schools across the City, serving nearly 13,000 students. In-school Community School Coordinators organize strategic partnerships and programs to promote wellness and stability for students, families, and neighbors.

We view student education and community well-being as a shared responsibility --
that's where you come in!

This page is for individual volunteers. Looking to get involved with a group? Click here.

Community Schools rely on volunteers to support:

  • Grocery Giveaways

  • Food & Clothing Pantry Organization

  • Special Events

  • Classroom and Library Support

  • Safe Routes to Schools

  • Gardening and School Beautification Projects

  • and much more!

Good to Know About Volunteering:

  • Most individual volunteer opportunities for Community Schools take place during school hours or during before/after school programming: Monday-Friday, approximately 7am-5pm.

  • Volunteering looks different for every person! You can sign up to volunteer at one Community School or multiple schools. You can focus on one type of volunteering or contribute to a school in multiple volunteer roles.

  • Each Community School is also a little different! While we share the same vision and strategy, our schools meet the needs of their students and families in unique ways. Each School will have their own volunteer needs and schedules as determined by the on-site Community School Coordinator, school administration, and Volunteer Engagement Coordinator.

  • In accordance with School District of Philadelphia policies, volunteers may be required to submit clearances before beginning. We are here to provide guidance during this process!
